Silver Prints

The melding of my paper and photographic vision occurs in the darkroom. The paper is coated with silver emulsion, exposed and developed using traditional darkroom techniques. There are many more variables inherent in printing a photograph on handmade paper than on commercial paper Even when the paper is the same, factors such as the application of the emulsion, the humidity or the temperature affect the final print. Every step in the process yields opportunities for interaction and discovery resulting in a unique print that embodies my artistic intention as well as the unexpected.

Platinum/Palladium Prints

Producing these photographs combined hands-on papermaking, an historic alternative photographic process and new digital technologies. Platinum/palladium printing is a non-silver photographic method that requires the negative to be the same size as the final print. The negatives were prepared digitally and printed on transparency film using an ink jet printer. This body of work is also printed on paper that I made specifically for the projects.
